Knutsford

Racing in GB (and Ireland) doesn't mean only Group-I-Races in Epsom or the "Lady with had" in Ascot, its also the point-to-point-events in the province. These are only amateur steeple chases. The prize money is low, the final entry of the horses takes place at the raceday itself. Then it may happen, that only 5 of 32 nominated horses are finally entered, so that there are 27 non-starters. Or the other way round: There are 100 horses nominated, and they all are supposed to run, so that the race has to be split in three divisions last minute, and the horses are drawn by lot for the particular race. The conditions for participants and audience are very spartan - similar to a German C-track. But the challenges for horse and rider are almost the same as at a proper steeple chase. One or two first class steeplers started their carrier at point-to-point-races.
